Western Michigan University is a large, public, 4-year research university located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It is a residential campus in a small city. Approximately 20,000 undergraduate and 5,000 graduate students choose from over one hundred forty program offerings which are available through eight colleges. Special facilities include a particle accelerator, a pilot plant for manufacturing and printing of paper and fiber recovery, aviation flight simulators, a business technology park, a stock trading room, a 274-acre lakeside nature preserve, and a historic farm sustainability living/learning community. Popular areas of study include aviation, blindness and low vision studies, creative writing, engineering management, jazz studies, and medieval studies. Intercollegiate sports include baseball M, basketball, cross-country W, football (tackle) M, golf W, and more. Intramural sports include basketball, football (non-tackle), golf, ice hockey, racquetball, sand volleyball, soccer, softball, and more.
