First Place Transition Academy Phoenix, AZ

The First Place Transition Academy is operated by SARRC, the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center who staffs the program with professionals who work from 7:00am-11:00pm. They work through a 32 course curriculum, 17 weeks each in subjects including life skills, jobs, personal identity, safety, community life. Students go to class 2 hours a day, 4 days per week, and then work on their skills the rest of the day. At the end of the 2 years, students receive certificates in Life Skills and graduate with the community college class in a cap and gown ceremony. For some this this will represent their post-secondary experience, others might go onto community college or university.

First Place Apartments is a 55 unit supported housing complex. Residents have to be at least 18 years old. There are 1 year leases, and residents can stay as long as they’d like. Residents are neuro-diverse with many different abilities. There is a vocational coordinator, a health coordinator, community life coordinator, support specialists. This is not a clinical program. This is a non-licensed property which allows families to use community service or whatever government supports they may have. They offer virtual tours.
