The Foundation for Independent Living is a non-profit, independent residential living program for adults with learning disabilities and borderline level skills. Founded in 1986 by a group of parents, the program was established to provide a post-secondary setting for people interested in growing and gaining independence. The program is housed in an apartment complex located near shopping, transportation, recreational activities and educational programs. Residents work on building skills in personal finance, food, self-help, household maintenance, personal scheduling, mobility within their community and emergency needs. Residents are assisted in securing jobs and supported in maintaining them and are offered an opportunity to work at the Foundation Work Center.
