Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, LSU, is the flagship public research institution in the Louisiana State University System. The 21,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduate students study in 17 schools and colleges on a 2,000-acre campus. There are over 350 student organizations currently active on the LSU campus, and LSU fields 20 varsity teams as a member of the NCAA DI sports program. The University operates the LSU Laboratory School, a K-12 public school which exists to provide training opportunities and to serve as a demonstration and educational research center.
